What is V-Grooving?

v-grooving

V-grooving involves machine cutting v-shaped lines — both linear and curved — into the surface of a pane of glass. The result is sophisticated and unique designs.

Lines can be left ground for a textured and opaque appearance or polished for a clear finish. Line sizes and finishing styles can be combined to create unique effects, such as shadowing or obscuring transparency. Cuts can be applied anywhere on the pane.

You’ll find v-grooving in a variety of glass projects, including:

  • Specialty panes
  • Doors
  • Mirrors
  • Shower enclosures
  • Cabinetry and Millwork

Beauty Meets Function

Glass grooving designs do more than simply beautify your glass. Designs can serve a variety of functions, including:

  • Creating a faux frame
  • Giving the illusion of muntins, or gridwork
  • Adding a focal point to a glass piece
  • Enhancing residential and commercial entryways

Not sure which pattern will work best for your project? Most glass fabricators have a small library of designs to choose from. Standard v-grooving designs are usually rooted in the shape of the glass pane to which they’ll be added. However, many fabricators will help you develop custom designs – be it a company logo or a unique pattern.
